Custom Marine Construction by Marinus is a Miami-based marine contractor. We dredge, we protect shorelines, and we take out what shouldn’t be in the water — across Miami-Dade and Broward, the water we know best.
Fifteen years of marine construction, much of it outside the United States working for the largest Marine Contractor in the world, taught us that the difference between a good job and a bad one is planning and executing. It’s making sure the bottom was surveyed properly, whether the permit matches the plan, and whether the person on the sticks understands what is under the water.
The company is led by a Texas A&M Maritime Academy graduate with a degree in marine transportation and an unlimited tonnage U.S. Coast Guard license — a licensed mariner, not just a contractor with a barge. That’s why we invested in dredging technology and why every cut we make is modelled before and surveyed after.

Our dredging division
The clearest difference between us and most marine contractors in South Florida is structural: we carved dredging out into its own division. Not a service line on a brochure — a separate crew, a separate fleet, and a separate schedule that answers to nothing but dredge work.
We did it because dredging kept getting treated like the afterthought of the industry. A homeowner calls about a slip that has silted in, and gets a dock crew with a rented barge on a Friday, a quantity estimated off a lead line, and a schedule that moves every time a bigger job needs the equipment. The work suffers in ways that don’t show up until the post-dredge survey — or until the silt is back in two years because nobody cut the right profile.
A dedicated division fixes that at the root problem. The same operators run the same equipment on every job, so the learning curve in South Florida was paid for years ago instead of on your property. The survey workflow is standardized — every cut modelled in Dredgemagic before we mobilize and re-surveyed before we demob — because it’s the only workflow this crew runs. And the equipment stays rigged for dredging: spud barge, long-reach excavator, push boat, sealed bins and turbidity gear, all committed, so mobilization doesn’t wait on another project to release a barge.
Permitting sits inside the division too. The person writing the DERM application is on the same team as the person who will run the excavator, which is why what gets permitted is what gets dredged — and why we can tell you early when a cut isn’t going to be approved instead of discovering it four months in.
